Detroit Moms, We Carry the Weight of the World

If you are a mom in Detroit, chances are you know this feeling.
The alarm goes off and the day begins before you’ve even had a moment to breathe. You’re packing lunches, doing drop-offs, answering emails, folding laundry, preparing dinner, managing schedules, and making sure everyone else is okay.
And if we’re honest, many of us are also being pulled on by our partners or spouses.
Everyone needs something from us.
We are everything to everybody.
But who is pouring into us?
Many moms I talk to are running on fumes. We keep pushing through the day without realizing how much our nervous systems are carrying.
For generations, moms' Black moms, white moms, and moms from every background—have been taught to keep going no matter what.
We carry hidden trauma. We carry stress. We carry responsibility.
And many of us have learned to operate in fight-or-flight mode so often that we’ve started to see it as a superpower.
But here’s the truth:
Living in survival mode is exhausting.
Over time it shows up as:
• chronic stress and burnout
• anxiety and emotional overwhelm
• difficulty resting or slowing down
• feeling disconnected from ourselves
• resentment from always pouring into everyone else
So many women I see are simply tired.
Tired of carrying everything.
Tired of surviving.
Tired of being strong for everyone else while quietly falling apart inside.
And the truth is — moms deserve space too.
A space to breathe.
A space to be heard.
A space where we don’t have to hold everything together.
That’s why I’m hosting a Strong Roots Café.
Strong Roots Café is a guided conversation space where moms and caregivers come together to reflect, connect, and support one another. It’s not therapy and it’s not a lecture. It’s a welcoming environment where moms can sit at the table together, share experiences, and realize they are not alone.
It’s a place where we can finally exhale.
Because when moms are supported, families and communities become stronger.
If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, or like you’ve been carrying the world on your shoulders, this space was created with you in mind.
